Friend of Bud Powell and Thelonius Monk, eclectic pianist, faithful member of the Church of Black Christ, Dizzy Gillespie's pianist, she "fell sick" twice a week so that Barry Harris could earn a few dollars replacing her at the Hickory House. Mary Lou Williams (1910-1984) was one of the Grand Dames of Jazz. Here she is at a gala in Paris.
