HendrikThe Baltimore Chamber Jazz Society presents its fourth concert of the season at The Baltimore Museum of Art on Sunday, March 28, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. One of Baltimore's premiere jazz concert series for nearly two decades, BCJS continues to program some of the finest artists in jazz today. All concerts in the Five at 5 Series take place at The Baltimore Museum of Art, 10 Art Museum Drive, Baltimore. Subscriptions are $125. Individual tickets are $28 general admission, $26 for BMA Members and Senior Citizens, and $10 for students with ID at the door. The Hendrik Meurkens Samba Jazz Quintet features Hendrik Meurkens on vibes and harmonica, Jed Levy on tenor saxophone and flute, Misha Tsiganov on piano, Gustavo Amarante on bass, and Adriano Santos on drums. From tranquil bossa nova treatments to burning New York samba jazz versions by the way of inspired Chorinhos and in-the-pocket Sambafunk, The Hendrik Meurkens Samba Jazz Quintet explores the wide terrain of Brazilian jazz. The unique sound of the band is defined by Meurkens' trademark sound of jazz harmonica and vibes, with Jed Levy's dynamic tenor and flute plus the immensely swinging rhythm section of Tsiganov, Amarante, and Santos.
