Charlene Cochran

Charlene

"...an entertaining pro with an great voice singing a variety of jazz with style, energy and elegance." Washington Post

Charlene Cochran is a band leader and jazz vocalist who sings both contemporary and traditional jazz with style and romance. Charlene has recorded and performed in the CharleneBaltimore/Washington area as a solo artist since the 1980s. In addition to performing with her own quartet, she frequently sings with some of the area’s hottest big bands. Charlene’s training was enhanced when she received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to study jazz improvisation. Last summer Comstock Records released a CD in Europe featuring Charlene singing a composition she co-wrote pianist/arranger George Spicka called “Jamaican Moon”, an audience favorite.

Charlene’s vocal style has been compared to Ella Fitzgerald, Barbara Streisand and Sarah Vaughn. Her work also includes television, hosting her own radio talk show, theater, concerts and clubs. She has performed at the Kennedy Center, Blues Alley and the 219 Club, and is finalist in Baltimore City’s Billie Holiday jazz vocal competition. She has almost completed her first CD at the Peabody Conservatory of Music where she was invited to record her session.
